Etimologia

Il nome deriva dal mweggreco mwewmwfaπαρά, mwfqparà, cioè mwfgdappresso, accanto, che è simile, che somiglia, per i molti caratteri in comune con il mwfwgenere mwgaAraneus mwgqmwggClerck, 1757.

Distribuzione

Le cinque specie oggi note di questo genere sono state rinvenute in varie località dell'mwhqAfrica subsahariana, (la P. uncivulva è un mwhwendemismo del mwiaMadagascar); una sola specie, la P. spectator, è stata reperita anche in mwigMedio orientecite-ref-araneidae-2-0[2].

Tassonomia

Un lavoro dell'aracnologo mwkqArcher del 1951, nel trasferire la mwkgspecie tipo di questo genere al genere mwkwEriophora mwlamwlqSimon, 1864, in modo implicito la rese sinonima; questa scelta non venne però convalidata da uno studio dell'aracnologo Grasshoff del 1968, che ripristinò il rango di genere per Pararaneuscite-ref-araneidae-2-1[2].

A dicembre 2011, si compone di cinque speciecite-ref-araneidae-2-2[2]:

• mwtaPararaneus spectator mwtg(Karsch, 1885) — Africa, Medio Oriente
• mwuaPararaneus uncivulva mwug(Strand, 1907) — Madagascar
